Not. A. Major! Players Week

I'll start off by saying, I actually thoroughly enjoy the Players Championship. It is set at one of the best courses on Tour, it is available for the public to play but I will die on this hill...IT IS NOT A MAJOR! If they....(PGA Tour, NBC / Golf Channel) didn't shove it down our throats every second from the end of the FedEx Cup till March every year, maybe I would think differently. Unfortunately, they do so then I won't.

Until this year, NBC / Golf Channel had lost most of the majors in golf to CBS, Fox, Turner & ESPN so naturally they had to push an event as hard as they could for ratings...insert the PGA Tour. The Players Championship is run by the PGA Tour, unlike the other Majors in golf. The PGA Championship is run by the PGA of America (longer history and explanation behind the difference between the PGA of America and the PGA Tour), the US Open is run by the USGA, the Masters is run by Augusta National and The Open is run by the R&A. Golf is one of the most complicated sports when it comes to who has ownership and runs what, but the largest event the PGA Tour owns and manages is...you guessed it... The Players Championship. Therefore, the PGA Tour and the Players want to let everyone know how big of an event this is. If they would stop talking about how it should be a major on all the "Live Froms"....then maybe the majority of us would reconsider.

Now that I am off my rant about how it's not a major. Let's talk about the golf..so far this year you've had winners like Kevin Na (Sony Open), Brooks Koepka (Waste Management), Max Homa (The Genesis...you may have only known about this because of Tiger Woods wreck...in a Genesis branded vehicle), and Bryson last week at the Arnold Palmer. Golf is in a great spot with so many incredibly talented golfers, personalities and venues. The things I'm looking to this week are:

- The (1) year anniversary of cancelling the Players due to Covid-19 and subsequently the whole world shutting down for 12 months.

- Can my picks of Dustin Johnson (+1200), Justin Thomas (+1800) and Kevin Kisner (+12500) actually make a run?

- Who will break out of their funk first....Rory or Spieth?

Austin and I breakdown the world of golf, who we think will win...Hint...I am backing the field favorite DJ and discuss the mental side of golf.
